In Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s Faust, his titular hero makes an arrangement with the devil (disguised as a poodle): The devil will do everything that Faust wants while he is here on Earth. In exchange Faust will serve the devil in hell. The catch is that if the devil makes Faust truly happy and content, he’ll die right then and there, or as the famous phrase goes: “Verweile doch, du bist so schön” – “Stay a while, you are so beautiful”.
Not to imply that anyone has ever had to make a Faustian bargain to live on Red Mountain …
